Wow, so that was a quick two years! On the 19th of December 2011, the first casks of our Happy Chappy were cracked open and enjoyed by the local beer revelers. Two hectic years on from that and a lot seems to have happened, thanks to everyone who enjoys a Cromarty tipple. We developed a core range of beers, some occasional, some variations and some rarities, taking the total count to about 22 to date! From a winter warming Eisbocked Chilly Chappy to a refreshing kiwi fruit infused KiWheat we’ve just started to stretch our wings. We’ve expanded our awesome workforce and equipment several times over, built our own bottling line, kick-started our barrel aging program and won a few awards.
To mark this momentous occasion we have been busy brewing up a massive flavoured beer to suit. There was one obvious beer for the choice, A Double Dry Hopped Barley Wine weighing in at 9% abv. Using only the single hop that got me into hops, this beer is rigorously hopped with the awesome Columbus from North America. A colossal amount of British Maris Otter along with some sweet crystal malt provides a really big base for this beer. This will peacefully condition in the brewery over the festive holidays and will be packaged and released in January 2014 to all of our usual outlets. Make sure you grab one and rid those post-Hogmanay blues!
Since it’s the festive season we have also decided to bottle up some of our standard Ghost Town Porter and also some Ghost Town which was aged in a Jack Daniels cask with fresh local Raspberries from Wester Hardmuir fruit farm. The latter has been peacefully bottle conditioning this beer in the brewery and look to it being ready very shortly. The aroma of fresh raspberries, oak and a hint of bourbon is beautifully sweet and enticing whilst the flavour is big and bold with a slight bitterness to the finish.
To everyone who has supported, helped, advised or just drank our beers we are truly grateful, we have enjoyed every minute of it and the above is just for you! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy “Chappy” New Year from everyone here at the Cromarty Brewing Co!
